A Quiet Place for a Vacation

The Cole Cabin is located on a dead-end dirt road just below the Stratton Mountain ski area off of the Pikes Falls road.

This is a warm, friendly, cozy dwelling that some guests refer to as a hobbit house or boat-like.

It is built out of logs cut the old fashioned way, one by one in the woods and then transported to the site, where they are placed on top each other and chinked.

Private and quiet, the side of the Cabin that faces the pond has a patio for barbecuing and general outdoor relaxation. A Weber charcoal grill, picnic table with umbrella and Adirondeck style chairs are provided. It is a lovely spot for enjoying the day.

Inside the Cabin
The Cabin is comfortably furnished with bedding, dishes, cutlery and utensils. Everything is provided. The one-person stand-up kitchen has a stainless steel sink, dishwasher, electric range, coffee maker, microwave, toaster and a refrigerator. The log living room has a brick fireplace with an Avalon fireplace insert. Gas heat is available when needed. For dining, there is a locally made free form pine slab table.

There are two bathrooms in the cabin, one in the master bedroom with a shower and a second split bathroom with a toilet in one room and across from it, an oversized shower room with a sink.

There are two sleeping areas or bedrooms on the first floor in the Cabin: a master bedroom with a queen-sized bed, ceiling fan and its own bath with shower and there is a sleeping nook with two double-sized bunk beds in the area leading from the living room to the master bedroom.

Upstairs is a play/get-away/storage space with an Alice-in-Wonderland style children's play space.

A Private Pond
The Cabin is a few steps from a spring-fed 3/4 acre private pond. The pond is a great place to enjoy the sun on a hot day, go for an afternoon swim or do some recreational, catch and return fishing. A rowboat is provided. The grassy banks of the pond provide safe and easy entry into the water for young children and a lovely screened gazebo graces the far shore. The pond is shared by the Cole House, but otherwise is private.

Lots to Do Nearby
From the cabin, it is a pleasant hike or a short drive to a waterfall at Pikes Falls, a beautiful rocky place for diving, sun bathing or hiking as well as a cool dip. The water is very cold even in the late August. Watch a video of Pikes Falls. On the backside of the property is Styles brook which runs down from Stratton Mountaiun. Watch a video about Styles Brook.

Manchester is outlet store heaven for the shoppers in your group. For a good day hike, take the Long Trail or the Appalchian Trail, which winds its way through the back of Stratton Mountain to Stratton Pond. A number of State Parks are close by, including Jamaica State Park, which has its own falls called Hamilton Falls. You can put in a canoe or go fishing in the many streams and nearby lakes.
